Abstract: With the continuous development of the oil exploration industry, the focus of exploration has gradually shifted from land to offshore. In recent years, the continuous breakthrough of satellite technology, especially the maturity and application of high-throughput satellite (HTS) technology, has made offshore communication more convenient. The use of satellite technology provides communication support for offshore oil and gas exploration, and helps to solve communication challenges encountered by offshore personnel in both their daily life and production process, therefore effectively improves the operational efficiency of offshore platforms and vessels. This paper discusses commonly used satellite communication methods, analyzes the business requirements of offshore oil and gas exploration and the application scenarios of satellite network, and provides recommendations on the applicability of integrating satellite networks with offshore oil and gas exploration. What is more, it makes a case study on the application of satellite technology by a company production project, so as to provide references for the promotion and application of satellite technology in offshore oil and gas exploration.
