Identification of Fan Delta and Prediction of Favorable Reservoir Area from Seismic Data--An Example from Fan Delta in Baojingen Graben, Kazakhstan

  • In order to summarize the characteristics of fan delta at steep slope in single well (profile) and seismic attribute (plane) in eastern slope of Baojingen Graben, comprehensive study has been conducted through logging data analysis, forward modeling and seismic attribute optimization technology, and some understanding has been made. The logging curves are characterized by inverse cycle, fine in the lower and coarse in the upper. The result of forward modeling indicated that parallel to the direction of provenance, the reflection is characterized by strong amplitude near fault, and weak energy within the sag, with wedge shape at external, and discontinuity at internal. Perpendicular to the direction of provenance, along one side of steep slope, the reflection is characterized by dome shape, which are "bottom flat and top convex" connect or overlap, with characteristics of "small size but large number ". Based on the above analysis, the top and bottom of the fan delta have been identified, and the accumulative reflected energy attributes have been optimized, the planar distribution of the fan delta has been determinated, and the favorable areas of the reservoirs have been predicated. The forecast results are coincided with late drilling results, indicating that this method could be applied to other area.
