Application of the Pragmatic Geophysical Techniques to Exploration of Lithological Traps in Bozhong Exploration Area

  • The exploration of Q structure in Bozhong prospect area has been almost ten years, however, no great break through has been made. On the basis of the lithology exploratory thinking of the peripheral mature oil field, guided by the recent geological theo-ries, new geophysical techniques to identify and describe the lithologic traps have been used in shallow water delta in Neogene by fine structure elucidation and description, such as the strata slice, the seismic attribute analysis, the 90° phase shift and the velocity-variant mapping. The study results indicated that the strata slice and seismic attribute analysis techniques can be used successfully to identify the complex characteristics of lithologic traps, the 90° phase shift can be used to describe the lithologic traps, and the veloc-ity-variant mapping can reflect truly the tectonic character of lithologic traps. Through application of these techniques, a series of the shallow layer lithological hydrocarbon bearing structures, such as Qa, Qb/e and Qd have been discovered, resulting in high upsurge for exploration of shallow water lithological traps in the Bohai Sea. In addition, it is also useful for exploration of lithological traps with the similar geological background.
