Abstract
Surface-related Multiple Elimination (SRME) is one of the most advanced technologies in multiple elimination. Beginning with classification of multiple reflections and introduction of the elimination methods, principle of SRME based on the plane-wave propagation model for a horizontally layered earth was discussed, and then the iterative procedure of the prediction and subtraction of the surface related multiples in real seismic data was described. According to the properties of SRME, necessary pre-processing is pointed out for practical application. An example of SRME on 2D seismic data from Timer Sea, Australia, demonstrated that this data 2 driven multiple elimination approach is very effective, especially for the multiples from the irregular water bottom topography.
