Development and Application of Three-section Telescopic Joint for Floating Managed Pressure Drilling

  • There are many high temperature and high pressure wells in South China Sea and East China Sea, with high formation pressure coefficient, narrow formation pressure window, overflow and leakage in the same zone, difficult well control, difficult reservoir protection and other problems, which pose great challenges to the wellbore pressure control of offshore high temperature and high pressure drilling. Controlled pressure drilling can effectively solve the difficult problems in offshore drilling such as narrow drilling fluid density window, high temperature and high pressure, lost formation and narrow pressure profile. The three-section telescopic joint is one of the most important equipment for the controlled pressure drilling of floating drilling device, so it is necessary to develop it domestically. This paper describes the development of three-section telescopic joint for controlled pressure drilling of "Kantan 3" semi-submersible drilling platform, which has been successfully applied to Wells DF11-2-1d and DF11-2-2 with good practical application effect. It has created the first successful application of controlled pressure drilling in Chinese offshore floating drilling equipment, filled the gap in this field in China, broken the foreign monopoly, enhanced Chinese ability to drill for offshore oil and gas. The design, development ideas and methods can provide references for other controlled pressure drilling equipment of floating drilling equipment in China.
