Field Application of Displacement Well Killing Method

  • The displacement method is unconventional well killing method, which is mainly used in the case of empty well, drilling tool blockage, and the situation that circulation channel of well fluid can not be set up in the well. At present, the displacement method is more theoretical research, and related feld application case analysis is less. In this paper, two cases of well killing with displacement method are described and analyzed. In well A, after the blowout occurred, the shear blowout preventer was closed, and completion string was cut off, and wellhead was controlled. Due to the lack of circulation channel, the displacement method is used to kill the blowout well. Finally the well killing was done successfully. In well B, because of drill pipe washout during well killing operation, it is not effective to circulate the fluid to the bottom of the well. Therefore, displacement method is used for well killing. The well killing failed because of the damage of equipment and the false operation of well killing. Through analysis of two cases of well killing, an improvement plan is put forward, which is expected to be a reference for similar operations in the future.
