Study of the Methods to Predict Favorable Oil Reservoir Section in Bohai Penglai Block

  • Penglai Block is located on the edge of slope in a half graben-like sag, in the eastern part of Bohai basin, at the transform part of Tanlu fault. The faulting styles are various and complex, and faulting activity is multiphase, which have great influence on hydrocarbon accumulation. In this paper, through classification on faults in the study area, study has been conducted on the fault combination mode and difference in fault activity in different blocks. It has been pointed out that different fault combination modes and difference in fault activity in different blocks are the main controlling factors on hydrocarbon accumulation. It is predicted that the north block is hydrocarbon enrichment area. Furthermore, by using post-stack hydrocarbon detection method and saturation inversion method in logging controlled neural network, favorable oil bearing sections have been predicated, which is matched perfectly with predication results with geological method. The forecast results have been confirmed by drilling results. Overall, comprehensive application of above study methods is very useful in reservoir evaluation in Penglai Block.
