Discussions on the Towing Mode of Multi-streamers in Offshore Seismic Survey

  • The towing mode in offshore seismic survey operations determines the force relationship between lead-in cables, deflectors and the ropes (spur lines) that connect them. Based on the force analysis at the towing points in 10 streamer towing mode, we can identify that the tension on the spur lines between deflectors and lead-ins is lowest when it is vertical to the streamers. Changing the lead-in cable lengths will change the bending angle at the towing points, thus change the force between the lead-in cables and the spur lines. Therefore, the simulation of optimization on the multi-streamer towing mode can reduce the tensions on spur lines and lead-in cables at the towing points, thereby reduce the equipment failure rate.
