Analysis and Calculation of Sticking Point Depth in Floating Well Platform

  • The floating platform is quite different from the jack-up platform, and the turntable of floating platform is not fixed relative to the well bore. Influenced by storm surge and other effects, floating platform floats up and down relative to wellbore, especially when pulling up during drill pipe sticking or during drill press, which is equivalent to a platform load change suddenly. Therefore, the measured drill string elongation and sticking point when conducting super pull calculation are quite different from the actual sticking point depth. In order to eliminate the influence of fluctuating up and down for the platform floating, on the basis of the physics principles, super pull calculation method has been discussed in detail to calculate the depth of sticking point for the floating platform. With this method, the sticking point can be calculated exactly the when drill pipe sticking occurs for floating platform, being good for reference when calculating the sticking point depth.
