Tectonic significance of stratigraphic correlation between Upper Jurassic in Shandong/north Anhui & adjacent areas

  • Based on study of typical stratigraphic sections & well core in Mesozoic of Shandong & north Anhui areas, systematic study revision have been done on the Upper Jurassic and its underlying as well as overlying strata. Through this study, Mengyin Formation has been divided into the Lower Cretaceous, Corresponding to Yangjiazhuang Formation in southwest of Shandong area, Santai Formation has been divided into the Middle Jurassic, not in Late;and Zhougongshan Formation of Hefei basin (north Anhui) has been divided into the Late Jurassic to Early Cretaceous, Yuantongshan Formation in Middle-upper Jurassic.Fenghuangtai & Sanjianpu Formation at the north edge of Dabieshan has been divided into early phase of Late Jurassic.Based on this study, accurate and feasible stratigraphic correlation has been established. The correlation results indicate that Late Jurassic is absent in Huabei and Ludong areas, even to beginning of Cretaceous, because compress stress has dominated in the region since Yinzhi movement, and continued to the Early Cretaceous.
