Abstract:
In the fne interpretation of complex faults in the deep-water oilfeld A, the traditional techniques, such as coherence attribute etc., failed to depict the complex faults. Based on the characteristics of the faults in the study area with small fault throwbut signifcant change in the dip angle on the both wallsthe fault, the author adopted the seismic curvature attributes along the horizons to depict the fault distribution. This paper introduces the defnition, classifcation, geological meaning and calculation method of curvature attribute. This technique can more clearly depict the complex fault system through the optimization of horizon introduced and the change of interpolation in which the traditional horizon interpolation is replaced by thesuitable gridding method, thus it can be used to guide the combination interpretationof faults. More than 200 faults interpreted in the study area, 100 km
2 in the scope, demonstrate the complexity of faults. The reliability of this interpretation has been confrmed by the appraisal well drilled recently.
